Default picture resolution changes on V500 and V300

Hi there
When I set my resolution to High (640x480)
the quality decreases to 320x240 when I zoom X2 and the quality decreases to
160x120 when I zoom to X4 . Is this normal. I checked on my V500 and V300
both have the same "problem"

What is the latest software version for V500 and V300?

Thanks

It is normal.
The camera has not optical zoom. The zoom is digital so that losses
resolution.
