Default V500 as a gprs bt modem solution

This may help someone out - I have had a hell of a problem connecting my
v500 and ipaq via bt and gprs (the bt connection was fine making the v500
operate as a modem wasn't), finally sorted it out this evening:

to make the v500 operate as a gprs modem do the following!

on the pocketpc (in my case an hp2210)

make a new connection

select modem bt fax modem

no. to dial *99#

user name just enter anything

password enter anything

on advanced tab baud rate 19200
untick wait for dial tone

DO NOT ENTER ANYTHING INTO EXTRA MODEM STRING BOX (I was told by orange to
enter an AT connection string here which I think stopped me from connecting)

thats it - make sure bt is on on the ipaq

NOTE that the v500 shows no opbvious signs of connecting so if your signal
is crap you won't really be able to tell if it trying to connect or not(not
helpful).

this works on Orange UK and I have sent email and also surfed the internet
via gprs tonight from my ipaq over gprs.

hope this helps someone else,

Ian

must just say that the v500 overall is pretty good except for - it's a bit
heavy, a bit big and the gprs / data implementation is nowhere near as good
or intuitive as my 18 month old SE t68i.
