Default T-Mo Phones Locked or Unlocked?

I have a friend who discontinued service on T-Mo because his bills were
too high, and he decided a landline would be better for him. I was
thinking about buying his Nokia 3390 to use on RCC Unicel for six
months, as RCC Unciel will allow customers who bring their own phone to
have a free SIM with NO CONTRACT. Anyhow, I was just wondering if
T-Mo's phones are usually unlocked. If they are locked, since his
contract is up, would it be easy to get the phone unlocked?

T-Mobile's phones are locked. They provide an unlock code to customers that
have been on their network for more than 90 days.

Have your friend call and get the unlock code for the phone. T=Mobile
will give it to him. Once you have the unlock code, buy the phone and
do what you want with it.

T-Mobile's phones are definitely locked.

get n-gage from ebgames
it's naturally unlocked, and cost 300 bucks (no contract required)
cheap as an unlocked tri-band plain smartphone

I only need voice capabilities, and I will only be using it for six to
nine months. $300 seems like a lot for just a few months...

TMo's phones are locked. If you have a triband and if you have an

and
they unlocked it via email insturctions within 24 hours. I have found

TMo
to be very cooperative in this respect.

is the email address one uses at TMo to request an
unlock code. Here is the information that TMO requires before unlocking
your phone:

* Account holders name

* T-Mobile account or mobile number (required - all requests without
this info will be denied)

* Contact number or email address

* IMEI number from the handset (press *#06# to get the IMEI)

* Make and model of the phone

* A brief reason for the request

The information is correct, but the address noted is no longer
functional. You have to phone a T-Mobile CSR to get unlock request
handled now. The e-mail addy was disabled a couple of months ago.

This is disappointing to learn. I suppose now when I buy a phone it will
only happen when the TMo person selling me the phone contacts their customer
care and unlocks the phone on the spot before I pay for it. I always cary
another cellcom's sim so I should be able to check it out. Keep your old
prepaid cards because even when they expire you can determine if you phone
is truly unlocked.

And one additional caveat.. you have to be an active customer for 90
days noe (no excepttins) to get an unlock code, according to T-Mobile...

If that's the case get a used phone on ebay for $20.

Yeah, my friend will sell it to me for $5.00 with no shipping. That's
why I was wondering.
