my local store tell me and yes i have shown them your and Elmo's posts and
they say both of you need to go back to school and lean that Verizon will
never totally give up contracts.
in fact they are making more in the works.
ill take an employees word over an internet strangers word any day.

I guess that would nit a native speaker of English, since that's not
English.

I have YET to see them offer service with out one expect to those who had
a
2 year contact and let it expire and chose to stay with them as i HAVE.
OR you get one of the company's pre pay phones and service.
AGAIN this is according to them.
THE LEADER IN CELL PHONE SERVICE AND PLANS .
ACCORDING TO THEM.

More non-English.

Actually it does .
Rember the more the phone costs the company the more mark up it has to get
to get its money back.
and with Verizon its a minimum of 150% mark up .

True.

POST PAY YOU YOU PAY MONTHLY AND THOSE DO COME WITH A MANDATORY 2
YEAR
CONTACT.

Also true. But you also buy the prepaid service PER MONTH and that's
how it's paid.

Not true. No more 2 year contracts. Those are GONE, with very few
minor exceptions.

My mistake. Ileft Verizon years ago when I saw what they wanted for a
smart-phone data plan.

T-Mobile started this concept 3 years ago, and disrupted the entire
industry status quo. AT&T, Sprint--no more contracts.

So ask yourself now: what's the difference between prepaid and
postpaid, when there's no contract and you can just sign up for service
and leave when you want with no penalty?

The taxes on the service make the postpaid more expensive.

How does the cost of modern phones make a difference either way?

It doesn't.

Yes it does i take the word of an actual employee of the company any day
over a stranger on the use net news groups.
that's common sense.
sorry if you don't think that way but i do.

until recently you COULD not get service with out buying a phone from
Verizon in Maine where iam from.
I got mine in 2007 and was told flat out we don't allow other company's
phones on our network or allow you to bring youre own to our service.
only when the FCC told them they have to allow it did they allow you to
bring youre own phone to Verizon.
and only then did they give you the unlock code so you could take youre old
Verizon phone and leave if you chose to.
now you can bring youre own phone.
but they still only give you the best deals IF you get a phone from them
WITH A CONTACT of 2 years of service.
ya aren't going win this one Elmo .
the company does what it wants that's why its the biggest cell provider in
the nation.
sad to say but true.

And what does that have to do with prepaid vs postpaid? Nothing. Buy
the phone separate from the service, just like you do at home since
1984. That's it. Now buy service--month to month, no service contract.
That's it.

So is this the end of contracts for Verizon?
Not exactly. If you don't want to pay the full price of a smartphone upfront
(and few do), Verizon will allow you to sign an agreement that says you will
pay for your device in 24 monthly installments. That is essentially another
contract.

Wait a minute--now you've gone from "you can't do it without a contract
here in Maine" to "yeah, no contracts required, but the stores will
still try to get you into one".

Which is it? "Can't do it without a contract," or "the salesmen push it
and make you say no if you don't want it"? There's a HUGE difference
there, bitch.

You are SO my bitch.

No, it isn't. Before if you wanted out, you had to "buy out" of the
contract. Now all you have to do is pay off the phone.
