Default Verizon vs. Alltel

Hello, I am a Cingular TDMA customer, and I am considering switching
cell phone companies. I am looking at Verizon or Alltel, because their
CDMA networks cover more areas than the GSM networks of Cingular,
Nextel, and T-Mobile, or what I was lead to believe.

I know that when Verizon isn't available, I will roam on Alltel and
vice versa, so what makes them different from one another?

Thanks

Another factor is how often and where you travel.  I've had Alltel.
There coverage where I live is awesome.  No one comes close except for
Verizon.  And their local freedom plan can not be beat.  (1,300 minutes
for $50.00).  However, I do travel and this is where Alltel has
problems as a regional carrier.  I don't have issues with reception but
I do have issues with other features.  I also use my cell phone as a
pager and I also receive voicemail alerts.  These features do not work
in every state I travel too.  If you travel, Verizon is more expensive
but might be the better bet. br

Hey man I work for alltel and I travel, I can tell you that I have had
excellent service with alltel, and I had Verizon long before I start working
for alltel and dropped them because of bad billing habits, I highly
recommend alltel, not just because I work for them but because I would
choose them regardless. Hope this help. (warning: do not get sucked into a
GSM service there rural coverage is horrible.)

"there"

Where is "there". Is it "here"? Is it "near"? Is it "far"?

I know it's not "here" in regards to where I am at this exact moment,
because Cingular/AT&T and T-Mobile outdo Verizon Wireless and Alltel.
Not only do Verizon and Alltel drop more calls than Cingular/AT&T and
T-Mobile, but Alltel has poor voice quality in comparision, along with
worse overall coverage in this area.

However, I hear Verizon outdoes Cingular in California in terms of
coverage/number of dropped calls. I have not concretely seen a CDMA
carrier excel in voice quality over a GSM carrier...

Point being that it's not an all-or-nothing deal for the United States.

rural coverage is horrible.)

Default Verizon vs. Alltel

I was with alltel through three name changes. I left them because of an
arguement with customer service. That mistake I regret everytime a pay my
verizon bill. I will most likely return to Alltel when I can afford my
Verizon buy out. The new digital bag phone is coming out will only be
carried by Alltel.

Ernest, I already had the "new digital bagphone" and returned it
to Alltel because it's a TOTAL LIE. It's not a bagphone at all.
It's the same micropowered toyphone built into this huge,
impressive bagphone case, sorta like one of those transistor
radios built into the nostalgia Crosley cabinet that's mostly
empty.

That bagphone doesn't run any more power than the smallest pocket
phone Alltel sells. The other problem is they were too stupid to
build it into the HANDSET, so you must ALWAYS hold the bagphone,
not just the handset like the old AMPS phones, to dial from the
main chassis, not the handset.

Just as poor a coverage as the pocket phones have....not 3 watts
from a big antenna like our beloved bagphones on AMPS.

Two words - IT SUCKS! Sorry to bust your bubble on it but that's
the truth....

Welcome back to Alltel. It beats Verizon's ass every place I go.

Larry,

I saw the truth about the m800 today while researching it on the net. Thank
you for your reply. Oh Btw kd4imu here, I will probably still switch back to
alltel when I can afford the buy out. Thanks for the reply.
