Default iPhone 4 Home Button Problem

These past few days, the home button of my iPhone 4 seems not to be very 'responsive'. I have to press it twice or thrice before it returns to the home page. Anyone here experiencing the same thing?

Several of our readers (and one of our editors…) are reporting a bug where the iPhone Home Button does not always respond to single-click or double-clicks. It might be software related as most people seem to have begun noticing this problem after installing iOS 4.1. It was hoped the bug would be fixed in iOS 4.2.1 but no such luck. Other causes that have been considered include a hardware short or dust or lint getting under the button. Ally also mentions that it may be caused by the home button not being properly centred. Possible symptoms and fixes, after the break.

Phone home button not working? Well, do not worry. Quite a few people have the same problem. Something seems to go wrong and both the single and double-click functionality of the home button seems to be totally lost. When this happens, first, one is easily prompted to press more. Sometimes people just what is the hardware problem and that the start button is gone forever. This may not be the case for most of the time.
The problem can occur for two reasons - one, the software may be defective and two - this is the worst hardware may be defective. If the latter, you will definitely need to go to the center and get a new Apple iPhone. If the problem is with the software - most of which is - you have to try the following methods.
A problem with software is usually just do a restore of the iPhone OS. You can do a restore from the backup, or do a full restore if you do not have much to worry about data. The restoration of the backup or from scratch allows you to reconfigure all software settings to whatever was bothering the start button on the iPhone is going.

However, some people have reported that both the type of restoration does not bring the desired results. In that case, you should follow some other method. Here is a method that seems to work for some iPhones. You can try it too.

Open any application on the iPhone
Hold down the power button until the "Slide to closing" screen.
Now release the power button and gently hold the Home button.
In all likelihood, the Home button will start working normally again!
