Default More ATTWS international roaming confusion

OK, so I picked up an SE T306 today, chucking my "better" TDMA contract
(National Network 500 anytime minutes, 500 mobile-to-mobile, $34.99) in
favor of a new GSM National Network with 550 anytime minutes and ZERO
mobile-to-mobile. Why? So I could have a phone that would work in France
if need be.

But... lots of confusion over the cost of roaming there. The website says
it's "just" $1.29/minute, but the ATTWS store rep says you have to pay mondo
long-distance charges on top of that. I cannot find *any* reference to that
on the ATTWS website.

Anybody able to enlighten me here?

By the way, my 15-year-old daughter has "stolen" my T306 and is busy
customizing it. Lots of things you can do with it, apparently. I live in
fear of what it sounds like when the next call comes in...

Did you consider switching to T-Mobile? Why? Because they will unlock
their phones allowing you to use a local prepaid
sim card. That way you pay the same rates as the "locals". Long distance
is still pricey but you can phone/email your friends/family the new "local"
number so they can call you. This will cut down on the costs of travel.
Unfortunately AT&T will not provide subsidy lock codes for ANY of their
tribands. This to me is a serious limiation of this cellular provider.

Did the AT&T rep bother telling you that the T306 won't work in
France?

As per http://www.attws.com/mmode/devices/t306.jhtml, the T306
operates at 850/1900 MHz.

As per
http://www.attws.com/include/interna...ferType=FRANCE,
you'll need a phone capable of 900 or 1800 MHz, preferably both.
