Packet Data is "pseudo" 56k - not a true 56k through put. It is 19.2k
with compression. The compression (on certain files under certain
conditions) can make it appear to transfer at speeds up to 56k. With
data like text email you get ~40k. If you are trying to download
things like jpeg or avi files or other compressed files your
throughput falls down close to 19.2k. It's not the best for web
surfing unless you stick to text based web sites. But some people
like it.

This is true.. but it is alot faster than using the dial-up alternative.. I
know when I dial-up, I personally end up getting like a 2.3 K connection at
most, which is a heck of alot slower than 19.2 :-)

Most wired telephone lines will connect anywhere from 24k to 53k so
Nextel's 19.2k is below the slow side of wired dial-up.

If you want a faster wireless phone connection, SprintPCS Vision
sevice is currently the fastest, speeds will usually run around
60k-80k during peak busy periods and will run 120k -144k during
off-peak times.
