Default A flat plan, finally !

Hi again everyone,
after struggling for my first month in the US with a prepaid card, I finally
decided to go for a flat plan.

I signed for the T-Mobile 39.99$ a month, unlimited nights and weekends. Not
bad, even if unfortunately I had to give a 600$ deposit because I don't have
a social security number.

I have some questions for you guys, would you help me ?

1) If I receive calls from Italy, am I paying just as if it is a local calls
? And so, if I receive during nights and weekends I am not paying at all ?

2) If I make calls to Italy, am I REALLY paying 0.29 cents a minute ? How
can I verify that ? Would that make any difference if I call during nights
and weekends ?

3) How can I check how many minutes I have left ? The web site shows the
total used, but it INCLUDES nights and weekends :-(

4) Do you know how many text messages can I send a month ?

5) How will I know wheter I finished my 600 monthly minutes ? I don't want
to receive a HUGE bill because I finished my minutes withour realizing it.

Maybe you find my questions so stupid... it's just that the cell system in
Italy is so, so different !!!

Thanks for your help,
Carlo Melzi

Yes that's right..

2) If I make calls to Italy, am I REALLY paying 0.29 cents a minute ? How

You still get deducted airtime. During the nights and weekends you
don't get charged airtime. You get charged LD no matter what.

3) How can I check how many minutes I have left ? The web site shows the

You can call.

4) Do you know how many text messages can I send a month ?

Check online, last page includes total.

5) How will I know wheter I finished my 600 monthly minutes ? I don't want

You don't. you have to keep track.

You pay for incoming and outgoinig AIRTIME durinig the week. Nights and
weekends are not charged (if that it the plan that you have). Where the call
comes from doesn't matter.

You would pay the international long distance costs and airtime except during
the free nights and weekends where you would only pay the international LD
costs.

N/W are called out sepereatly when I log into the web site.

4) Do you know how many text messages can I send a month ?

You can also see your current usage on the T-Mobile web site after you log
on.

All calls received are chargeable. If they occur during your
"anytime" minute period they come out of those minutes. If they occur
during your free nights and weekend period you don't pay anything at
all.

2) If I make calls to Italy, am I REALLY paying 0.29 cents a minute ? How

The rate is the same 24 hours daily. It makes no difference if you
call at night. There is no "off peak" time to make international
calls.

If you find you'll be making a lot of international calls you may want
to check into the Gorilla Mobile service http://gorillamobile.com as
rates are 9 cents/minute to call regular wirelines in Italy. To call
mobiles in Italy it's 23 cents/minute. Not quite as much of a
savings, but still it's 6 cents/minute better then the rate you would
pay with T-Mobile. To use the gorillamobile service you need to bill
to either a major credit card or arrange to have automatic bank draft.

From your phone call 611. After you have logged in your balance will
be read to you press 1, then press 1 again. It will read back to you
your present useage for 'whenever' minutes and weekend minutes. I
don't have unlimited night minutes so I'm not sure whether that gets
computed when you call 611. You can also call 1-800-937-8997 for the
same information.

4) Do you know how many text messages can I send a month ?

Unless you subscribe to a text message package all outgoing messages
will be charged at 5 cents per minute. You have 50 free incoming text
messages allowance per month.

5) How will I know wheter I finished my 600 monthly minutes ? I don't

want
to receive a HUGE bill because I finished my minutes withour realizing

it.

If you're concerned about minute useage you should call 611
periodically.

Welcome to the USA btw. You'll not know what to do with all your
cheap minutes here, so enjoy them before you go back!

Yes, in exchange for a good pizza recipe from your mom.

Others have already answered, but here are my answers in case you are
not satisfied.

To start, get the idea of airtime into your head. You always are
charged airtime. Other fees, like the $0.29/min to Italy, are in
addition to airtime.

You plan includes 600 airtime minutes during weekdays, and unlimited
airtime at night and on weekends. So calls to Italy are
$0.29/min+airtime during the week, and $0.29 during nights and
weekends.

1) If I receive calls from Italy, am I paying just as if it is a local calls

Correct. Incoming calls are all treated the same, from no matter
where in the USA or world.

You "pay" for incoming calls in airtime, so your 600 whenever minutes
get used up during the week/daytime. Only if you exceed the 600
minutes will you pay an additional per minute charge. That per minute
charge is the same for all calls, from no matter where they originate.

? And so, if I receive during nights and weekends I am not paying at all ?

Correct. Incoming calls are always free/unlimited during nights and
weekends, from no matter where.

2) If I make calls to Italy, am I REALLY paying 0.29 cents a minute?

Correct. T-Mobile's international rate page,
http://www.t-mobile.com/international/longdistance.asp, shows $0.29 a
minute to Italy.

But keep in mind the airtime you're using. If during the
week/daytime, you are deducting from your 600 minutes, and if you
exceed 600 then you will pay an additional per minute fee. If during
the night/weekend, you have unlimited airtime and will only be paying
the $0.29/min.

How can I verify that ?

Got to www.t-mobile.com and log into the My T-Mobile section. Examine
your bill a few hours after making a call to Italy to ensure the
charges are correct. If they are not, a simple call to customer
service at 611 will suffice. T-Mobile has hands down the friendliest,
most helpful customer service in the business. The rate to Italy is
on their website, that is what you will pay, and if an error is made,
you will have zero trouble getting it corrected. T-Mobile is a
reliable, reputable company. They say $0.29, you will pay $0.29.

Would that make any difference if I call during nights
and weekends ?

The $0.29/min price will remain the same. That charge always applies.
The only difference is airtime. You use from your 600 minutes during
the week/daytime, and have unlimited airtime nights/weekend.

3) How can I check how many minutes I have left ? The web site shows the
total used, but it INCLUDES nights and weekends :-(

611, then selection 1, then selection 1 from the phone.

On the website, log into My T-Mobile. Select "My Currect Activity" on
the left. It lists both minutes used and minutes remaining now.

4) Do you know how many text messages can I send a month ?

0 are free. Each sent message costs 5 cents. It is not a given that
they will reach a provider in Italy, however. You'll have to research
that.

50 are free incoming each month, after which they are 5 cents each.

5) How will I know wheter I finished my 600 monthly minutes ? I don't want
to receive a HUGE bill because I finished my minutes withour realizing it.

Dial #646# from the phone. Text will appear on screen with your
minutes used.
