Default TMO gets Competition ATTWS GSM Family Plan 2 Lines for $40

Just saw this posted in ATTWS newsgroup, checked it out for my area, Wash
DC* and it checks out.
The mLife Family Plan for $39.99 incl 600 Anytime , 1000 Mobile to Mobile,
additional mins billed @ .40 cents ea
ROAMing @ .69 a min. For another $10 a month, $49.99, same as the new TMO
Family Basic, you get 800 Anytime Minutes shared between the 2 Phones, 1000
Mobile to Mobile, additional mins billed @ .40 cents ea and .69 a min
ROAMing. Well we know XMAS and Holidays coming so I guess they are getting
ready to do some business!
Only snag, for me, is that ATTWS GSM still does not offer (and won't be)
Circuit Switched DATA (CSD). Thats one big benefit to give up on, GPRS or
not. But for the average consumer, $20 a line per month sharing a 600 minute
bucket is VERY strong.
* You will need to verify this is available in your home area.

1. Extra line monthly fee is $9.99 for a 2-year contract, 19.99 for a
1-year contract.

2. No weekend minutes are included.

3. This is a local plan, and the m2m service area is smaller than the
local service area that has no roaming charges.

The family national plans, a more direct comparison, offer 550 and 700
minutes at those two price points. Still no weekend minutes.

You can pick it apart all u want, bottom line, for the average Joe Blow with
a wife or kid or girlfriend gets 300 minutes each phone for $20, Anyway u
slice it, it will sell. Compare that to say $19.99 Basic plan on TMO with 60
Minutes and 500 weekends. I was in wireless for 15 years. Unlimited eve and
weekends are a great perk for someone who gets them free and wants to BS.
But for a cost concious consumer looking to get the most bang for the buck,
they want the least amount of monthly fee and a plan that will allow them to
communicate efficiently. When Harry homeowner sees that he and the wife get
300 minutes each, (100 minutes more each phone then TMO gives for $10 LESS a
month) or 5 hours per phone for $20 each line, it's a done deal. Laying out
on your couch using unlimited weekends, BECAUSE YOU HAVE IT, does not fit
that description. And when it comes to using the phone up and down the East
Coast or a National Plan, how often do you think the average wireless
customer travels out of their home area? And more importantly, is willing to
pay another $120 a year so they can call Aunt Joan for 30 seconds and say
they'll be arriving late? The customer Im referring too is not going to pay
$10 more a month, or $120 a year, so they can be "local" in Las Vegas once a
year and maybe at Grandma's in Florida at XMAS. So they ROAM twice a year at
..69 a minute to make a few calls while traveling? This consumer model will
make the necessary calls and get off. They won't justify paying $120 a year
for "Vacation Local" lets call it. So in closing, a "direct comparison" may
not be appropritae. What is more attractive to the "average" or typical"
cost concious consumer is.
ATTWS will sell the hell outta that plan

I don't see that in the link provided. I see a general discussion
section called "our plans explained" and also in "terms and conditions"
but n/w is not listed, that I can see, in the chart detailing mlife
local family plans. I see price, anytime, m2m, additional, web freebie,
and roaming charges for columns. If it's meant to be included it was
unclear to me.

My point was you just can't make an apples to oranges comparison.
Everyone has different needs and makes their decision based on that.
For example, lots of TM family plan users want a night minutes option.
Personally, I don't care since I make 75% of my calls m2m, which is
unlimited, so I only use about 600 of my anytime minutes per month
anyway. Maybe I should switch to AT&T! (lol)

I wasn't implying it was a bad plan, I was saying it is a _different_
plan. There are a number of local plans by AT&T and other carriers that
offer more minutes per month....this is not the first. I think I saw an
ad in the Wash Post today for Sprint that has 1000 local minutes on 2
lines for $65 and free m2m, n/w (from memory). A nice plan if it meets
your needs. But it only includes DC, MD, VA, and DE, IIRC. I need PA
and NJ as well. I travel out my my "home area" at least once or twice
per month. Other companies offer large regional plans I think. My
calls outside my home area aren't 30 seconds to say I'll be running
late. I use my phone there just like I use it here....I'm not limited
by the cloud of high roaming charges.

The "average" TM user uses over 750 minutes per month according to their
own press. So, 300 minutes each might not be enough. There are plenty
of users who are still "cost conscious" but don't want to be limited by
geography, etc.

AT&T is going after a particular cost-conscious consumer. That's fine.
There are plenty of other customers out there.

alotta talk that its not true, CSRs saying mistake, well I just spent last
45 minutes tearing it apart on the web, trying to see the catch or mistajke
